DART enables sampling directly from solid surfaces such as carpet fiber and tires.

Trace components in vapor can be easily detected after exposure of the surface of materials from crime scenes to the DART. In this example the presence of diesel fuel on carpet fiber from an arson scene is documented by comparing the mass spectra from carpet before and after treatment with the oil.
